Sylhet District(সিলেট জেলা) is located in northeastern Bangladesh, is one of the four districts of Sylhet Division.
Sylhet District covers an area of 3,490 km ² and is bordered by the districts of Maulvi Bazar, Sunamganj, Habiganj with Cachar and Karimganj districts of India.
The physiography of Sylhet consists mainly of the lower hill, where a couple of major depression known locally as Beels that can be classified mainly as a horseshoe-shaped lake, caused by tectonic subsidence in the first place during the earthquake 1762.
Archaeological heritage Stone monument Jaintapur, Gharduara Mound, Gaiyabi Mosque, the tombs of Hazrat Shah Jalal and Shah Paran, Abu Torab Mosque, Nawabi Masque, Mughal Mosque in Akhalia, Dhaka Dakshmin Temple, Tin Mandir.
