Chittagong is a district located in the south-eastern Bangladesh. It is part of the Chittagong Division. The port city of Chittagong, the second largest city of Bangladesh, located in this district.
The natural harbor, Chittagong was an important place for trade, and Arab traders in the ninth century CE. The area fell under the dominion of the kings of Arakan in the 16th century and 17, but later the Mongol army under Islam Khan conquered Chittagong. In the 17th century, the region also face a lot of attacks from Portuguese pirates. The Mughals established as a district of Chittagong in 1666. The hills of Chittagong, Chittagong, separated in 1860. After liberation of Bangladesh, Cox's Bazar district was separated in 1984.
