Meherpur (মেহেরপুর জেলা) is a district in southwestern Bangladesh, which is also the smallest district of Bangladesh. It is a part of Khulna Division. Prior to 1984, was part of Kushtia district. Meherpur is a historic district in Bangladesh due to the fact that the proclamation of independence was solemnly in the village Baidyanathtola, Mujibnagar on April 17, 1971. On this day the first provisional government of Bangladesh has oath here, under the leadership of Tajuddin Ahmed.
