Gaibandha (গাইবান্ধা জেলা) is a district in northern Bangladesh. It is a part of the Division of Rangpur. Gaibandha was founded in 1875, when the division was transferred from Bhabaniganj Gaibandha. Gaibandha town was founded in 1923. The literacy rate among the population of the city is 61.9%.
Gaibandha has a total area of 2179.27 square kilometers. It has borders with the Kurigram and Rangpur in northern Bogra district in the south, and the districts of Rangpur Dinajpur, western, and the districts of Jamalpur and Kurigram, and the river Brahmaputra to the population overall east.The district, according to a 2003 estimated at 2,117,959. That men are 50.26% and 49.74% female.
