Barisal is a district in southern Bangladesh. It is also the headquarters of Barisal Division.Barisal located in the south-central Bangladesh, an ancient district called Bakerganj, now a division. The city lies on the delta of the Ganges River on a branch of the River Arial Khan. The city of Barisal was under the control of the Roychoudhury family, which now has moved to Calcutta. Incorporated as a municipality in 1876 and an update to the Municipal Corporation in 2002.It is connected by boat with Dhaka and Chittagong in the southeast.
