The largest island of Bangladesh, Bhola is a district in southwestern Bangladesh. It is located in Barisal Division. It is also the region's largest offshore island in Bangladesh, with an area of 3,403.48 km square. It is surrounded by the districts of Barisal Lakshmipur and the North Bay of Bengal in the south and Lakshmipur Noakhali districts, Meghna River and Canal Shahbazpur in eastern district of Patuakhali and Tentulia river to the west.
Bhola consists of 9 wards and 17 mahallas. It has an area of 12.16 km2. The city has a population of 39,964, men 52.39%, 47.61% women. The literacy rate among the urban population is 63.9%. Municipal Bhola was founded in 1920. The city has four dakbungalows. [2] Approximately 400 MMcf of natural gas has been found in Bhola Kachia used to perform a power plant.
