Chandpur Sadar (Bengali: চাঁদপুর সদর) is an Upazila of the Chandpur District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He is best known for its famous Hilsha fish caught by local fishermen from the nearby river Meghna. Chandpur (Town) a municipal seat, is situated on the banks of the Meghna. The area is 7.77 square kilometers. It has 15 rooms and 75 mahallas.
The city has a population of 94,821, 50.77% men, 49.23% women. Literacy rate among the town people is 56.4%. Chandpur Municipality was established in 1897. In the map of Greater Bengal by James Renel Chandpur has been exactly indicated along with Tripura. JN Sengupta thinks that Chandpur was named after zamindar Chand Ray of Bikrampur. Some people think that Darvish was named after Chand Fakir of village Koralia adjacent to the town.
